Winemaker's Notes:
The 2022 growing season in Napa Valley was temperate and even until an intense heat wave came through California in September. It forced wineries to react quickly and pick sooner than we had originally planned. Luckily, swift action and careful attention to detail saved the grapes from getting overripe. The resulting wines are friendly, plush and sumptuous and can be enjoyed sooner than wines from cooler vintages.
The 2022 Designation is bold and luscious. The nose bursts out of the glass with intense notes of ripe cherry, plum, freshly picked blackberry and red currant. It has a complex bouquet layered with spice notes and pencil shavings.
On entry, the wine is outgoing, immediately eager to please your palate. It is rich but smooth and covers your palate with a dense opulence. The flavors are reminiscent of lush fruit and slowly cooked compote.
The tannins are velvety, almost hedonistic and provide structure to the layered density in this wine.
Approachable now, the 2022 will also gain in complexity in your cellar.
Each bottle of Designation is crafted from a very small number of hand-selected barrels, thus making the 2022 Designation extremely rare and exceptionally delicious. This is your special occasion wine and it’s time to celebrate.
